Theta Lambda Supports Students at Attack Poverty!
Members of Theta Lambda work weekly with students who receive extra support at Attack Poverty! They are given homework help, activities, games, and presentations. This month, March 2024, we donated items for Easter gift baskets for the students. Along with an Easter Egg hunt and crafts, everyone had a wonderful time.
Theta Lambda 2018-2019 Projects
Change for Africa
Theta Lambda will continue to provide support for Change for Africa. The money collected is directed to the annual mission trip of Sister Jane Meyer, principal of Saint Agnes Academy to benefit Our Lady of Grace School in Kisumu, Kenya. Sister Jane travels with her students to Kenya every summer to bring a message of hope, supplying the students with shoes, socks, books, and other necessities and providing the chance for them to grow their own food.
Parks Youth Ranch
Members will accumulate items to donate to the young residents at Parks Youth Ranch in Richmond, Texas, Fort Bend County. Parks Youth Ranch is a non-profit organization serving at risk and homeless youth by providing emergency shelter, counseling, and life changing services to abused and neglected youth ages 7-17.
Blankets for Silverado Memory Care
Our members will create flannel tie blankets to donate to Silverado Memory Care Community.

October 2013 Meeting
Theta Lambda Service Project 2013-2014
Theta Lambda’s service project for the 2013‐2014 year is Open Gate. Open Gate was established on Sunday, March 4, 2007 by Rev. Andy Noel at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church. The focus is on 18‐24 year old homeless young adults who need a safe and welcoming place. The commitment from these youths to join is an agreement of no weapons, no drugs, no alcohol and no violence either in speech or actions.
Hawthorne Dinners are family‐style meals served on Sunday afternoons. The young adults can visit with peers and discuss topics of importance to them at a safe and friendly site. Before and after dinner there are games, TV, videos, conversations with volunteers, and snacks. This is a place for conversation or to just safely hang out in the small library, using the computers, and providing a place for art and writing. These young adults are mentored in music, drama, tutoring, and assisted with studying for their GED. There are varying support activities such as speakers, printed information and representatives from agencies and service providers. These contacts at the Hawthorne Dinners are resulting in these young adults obtaining jobs, housing, and needed services.
Theta Lambda members will help this organization by furnishing blankets along with like new warm jackets, hooded sweatshirts, or coats for these homeless young adults living on the streets of Houston. This is a continuation of our commitment from last year where we provided personal items for their backpacks and blankets.
